A day at the Ark Encounter
Capturing Moments of Worship: Chosen Road and Scotty Inman at the 40 Days & 40 Nights Gospel Music Festival
I tagged along with Chosen Road to photograph their day at the 40 Days & 40 Nights Gospel Music Festival at the Ark Encounter in Kentucky, I knew it would be a special experience. This festival, one of the largest Christian music gatherings, brought together an incredible lineup of artists, and I was honored to capture moments with Chosen Road and Scotty Inman, two acts whose music and ministry have touched many lives.
The Atmosphere at the Ark Encounter
As I walked through the Ark Encounter, the sheer size and scale of the replica of Noah’s Ark were awe-inspiring. But what struck me even more was the spirit of worship that filled the air. Families, friends, and fellow believers gathered from all over, not just to see this magnificent structure, but to lift their voices in praise. The festival created an environment where faith and music intertwined beautifully, allowing everyone to experience worship on a profound level.
Chosen Road’s Performance: Bluegrass Worship at Its Best
Chosen Road has a unique ability to bring the roots of bluegrass music into a worship setting, and their performance at the festival was no exception. From the first strum of the banjo to the rich harmonies that filled the air, there was a sense of joy and reverence in their music. I found myself drawn to the moments when the audience would close their eyes, swaying gently, lost in the music. Capturing these moments through my lens was a privilege—each shot telling a story of connection, not just between the band and the audience, but between the people and their faith.
One of my favorite moments was when the band performed a medley of classic hymns, bringing a sense of nostalgia and deep reverence to the crowd. Seeing families singing along, some with tears in their eyes, reminded me of the power of music to bridge generations and bring people together in worship.
Scotty Inman’s Presence: A Voice of Encouragement
Scotty Inman took the stage with a presence that was both humble and commanding. His voice, rich and soulful, carried the weight of the lyrics he sang—messages of hope, redemption, and the love of Christ. As a photographer, it’s always a joy to capture an artist who is fully immersed in their performance, and Scotty was no exception. His connection with the audience was palpable, and I aimed to capture the moments where his eyes would meet those of the listeners, creating an intimate exchange that transcended the music.
During his set, Scotty shared personal stories and testimonies that resonated deeply with the crowd. These moments of vulnerability and transparency were a reminder of the shared journey we all walk as believers, and it was powerful to see how his music served as a vehicle for encouragement and faith.
Behind the Lens: The Photographer’s Perspective
Photographing an event like the 40 Days & 40 Nights Gospel Music Festival is both a challenge and a joy. The dynamic lighting, the movement on stage, and the need to capture the essence of worship all require a careful eye and quick reflexes. But beyond the technical aspects, it’s the emotional and spiritual connection that I strive to capture in every shot.
I found myself drawn to the candid moments—hands raised in praise, children dancing to the music, and the expressions of joy and worship on the faces of those in the crowd. These are the moments that tell the real story of the festival, and I hope that when you look at these photos, you can feel the atmosphere and spirit of worship that was so present throughout the event.
A Reflection on Faith and Artistry
As I reflect on my experience at the festival, I’m reminded of the profound intersection between faith and artistry. Music has a unique ability to express what words alone often cannot, and as a photographer, I feel a deep responsibility to capture these expressions of faith in a way that honors both the artist and the Creator.
Photographing Chosen Road and Scotty Inman at the Ark Encounter was not just about capturing images—it was about documenting moments of worship, connection, and shared faith. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be part of this event and to contribute to the celebration of God’s love through my photography.
